A landlord wants your passport. An employer wants your tax ID. So you email the PDF — and now it’s theirs, sitting in an inbox you’ll never see again.
Sending it takes four seconds.
Someone needs it by Friday, so you attach the scan on Tuesday and think no more about it. That part is easy. That part was never the problem.
Getting it back takes forever.
It is forwarded to a colleague. Backed up twice. Screenshotted into a group chat. Nobody meant any harm — that is simply what a file does once it is out of your hands. You cannot un-send a passport.
So hand over less.
Your landlord needs a name, a document number and an expiry date. He does not need your tax ID, your address history or the other eleven fields sitting beside them.
You pick the ones he gets. The rest never leaves your vault — not in the page, not in the JSON, not in a data attribute.
He just opens it.
The link and the PIN arrive together, in any browser he already has. No account, no app, no sign-up, nothing to install on a Tuesday afternoon for a document he will read once.
And you can see it happen.
- Opened — when he looked, and roughly from where.
- Field copied — which value he took, and when.
- Extension asked — if he wants longer than you gave him.
Real wall-clock times, in your timezone. Not a claim that we watch on your behalf — a log you can read.
You have to pick a date.
Before a dossier goes anywhere, Dossier makes you say when it stops. Not a switch you can forget to turn on, not a setting buried behind an advanced tab — there is no version of this without a deadline.
The Friday someone asked you for is the Friday it closes.
Then it closes itself.
On the date you set, the link stops opening. There is no reminder to act on and no request to approve, because the deadline is enforced on our side rather than asked of yours. You do not have to remember. That is the entire idea.
A dossier is exactly that, for a while.
